Three-headed hound that guards the gates of the underworld
Cerberus is the monstrous hound of Greek mythology that guards the gates of the Underworld, preventing the dead from escaping and the living from entering. Most famously described with three savage heads, a serpent’s tail, and rows of jagged teeth, the beast stood watch beside the river Styx beneath the command of Hades himself. Ancient heroes who ventured into the realm of the dead feared Cerberus as one of its greatest horrors. Its thunderous growls and burning eyes became symbols of the terrifying boundary between life and death.
