Jersey Devil

Winged beast haunting the Pine Barrens with hooves and shrieks

Origin American Cryptid
Creature Type Beast / Dragonkin
Ability Pine Barrens Terror
Lore

The Jersey Devil is a gaunt, winged terror from New Jersey folklore, said to haunt the dark cedar swamps and crooked pine forests of the Pine Barrens. Its body is thin and unnatural, stretched over sharp bones with long clawed limbs, split hooves, and a narrow, twitching frame built for sudden movement. A goatlike head rises from its hunched shoulders, crowned with twisted horns and a screaming mouth full of jagged teeth. Behind it, bony bat-like wings unfold from its back, ragged and leathery, casting crooked shadows between the trees. Its eyes burn with a feral, watchful intelligence, and its cry tears through the night before the creature vanishes into the mist, leaving only snapped branches, hoofprints, and the feeling that something ancient is still circling nearby.
