The Jorōgumo is a deadly spider spirit from Japanese folklore, feared for its ability to transform into a beautiful woman to lure unsuspecting victims. Legends tell of enormous spiders that grew powerful with age, gaining intelligence, magical abilities, and a hunger for human prey. Hidden within remote forests, caves, and abandoned houses, the Jorōgumo would charm travelers with music and kindness before revealing its monstrous true form.
