Winged torso that detaches and hunts the living in the night
The Manananggal is a horrifying creature from Filipino folklore, known for its ability to split its body in half and take flight into the night. With enormous bat-like wings and trailing entrails hanging beneath it, the creature hunted sleeping victims after dark, feeding upon blood and unborn children with a long proboscis-like tongue. Villagers feared the sound of fluttering wings above rooftops and kept watch for shadows moving beneath the moonlight. By dawn, the Manananggal was forced to reunite with the lower half of its body before sunrise or perish.
