The Roc is a gigantic bird of legend from Middle Eastern mythology, said to possess wings vast enough to darken the sky and talons capable of carrying away elephants. Sailors and travelers told stories of enormous shadows passing overhead above remote islands and endless seas. Some legends described the Roc battling monstrous serpents high among the clouds, while others spoke of entire ships disappearing beneath the storms created by its wings. Across centuries of myth, the Roc remained one of the greatest and most awe-inspiring creatures of the skies.
